Hungary has established itself as a top-notch production hub, offering a thriving infrastructure, affordable locations, and a highly competent English-speaking cast and crew. With a simple and transparent tax incentive introduced in 2003, the country has witnessed a significant increase in overall film production spending, making it the second most popular shooting destination in Europe after London.

Our team will help you navigate the process of accessing Hungary's production tax rebate, which has recently been raised from 25% to 30%. This rebate is based on the eligible production costs spent within the country and is part of the approved film support program by the European Commission.

 

Here's how it works:

• Eligibility: Films of all genres, feature films, animations, documentaries, and series can qualify for the rebate. 

• Calculation: The tax rebate is calculated as 30% of the eligible production expenses. You can increase it to 37.5% by adding 7.5% of non-Hungarian costs, capped at 25% of the rebate. The maximum rebate is 1.25 times the Hungarian spending.

• Financial Support: The rebate is provided through a cash refund as post-financing. Selected production companies, such as ours, that are registered within the Hungarian State, facilitate this process with the support of the National Film Institute (NFI) and its collection account. The system is stable, ensuring that productions that complete the administration process receive the rebate. Furthermore, this support is continuous, with no annual cap, making it a dependable and ongoing resource for eligible productions.
